Five Tips to Consider for a Pregnancy Photoshoot.

Capturing this unique time of your life can be a beautiful way to celebrate and remember your pregnancy. Whether you’re documenting your first pregnancy or adding to a growing family album, here are my top five tips to consider for a memorable pregnancy photoshoot.

Tip 1: The best time to book a maternity photoshoot

The best time for a pregnancy photoshoot is usually between 28 and 36 weeks. Of course, this is completely personal and dependent on your own unique experience of pregnancy. It is important to consider availability and book in advance to ensure you don’t you miss out on securing your spot!

Tip 2: What to wear for a maternity photoshoot

I do have another post on what to wear here. But to sum it up - Here are some tips:

-Comfort First: Think about what will make you feel comfortable and confident. You want to feel like YOU!

-Flattering Silhouettes: Form-fitting dresses can accentuate your belly and provide a flattering silhouette. Alternatively, you might opt for a more flowing, feminine look where we will incorporate different body positions to accentuate your shape. If you’re after a more casual, relaxed feel you might choose an unbuttoned shirt with either swimwear, lingerie, or unbuttoned jeans. If it’s cold you might go with jeans and a cozy knit or during summer some mamas opt for swimwear or lingerie with a little more skin showing. Consider whether or not you would like your bump/skin exposed or covered.

-Colours: Choose colours that complement you and your environment. If other family members are involved try to coordinate instead of match.

-Personal Touches + Creativity: Incorporate accessories or items that are meaningful to you, such as a piece of jewellery, some florals, or a special baby item.

Tip 3: How to pick the best location for your maternity photoshoot

The location of your photoshoot can add depth and meaning to your photos. Consider places that are special to you and your partner:

-Nature: Parks, beaches, or gardens can provide a serene and beautiful backdrop.

-Home: A cozy, intimate setting in your home can capture the warmth and anticipation of welcoming a new baby.

We will work together to choose a location that aligns with your vision!

Tip 4: Whether to bring your partner to your pregnancy photoshoot or go solo

A solo pregnancy photoshoot can be such an empowering experience! Maybe your partner isn’t feeling up to it, but you still really want these moments captured… make it a solo shoot! Some of my favourite photoshoots have been one-on-one with beautiful pregnant mamas - this creates such a wonderful opportunity for you to be in your body and feel the magic of your pregnancy. If you or your partner are feeling a little nervous (almost everyone shares this with me!) I will be there to support and direct you as much as you desire.

Here are some ideas:

-Partner: Capture the connection and shared excitement between you and your partner. I will encourage different poses and body positions (that are of course super natural!). We will capture tender moments, such as hands on the belly or gentle kisses, to create touching images.

-Siblings: Involve older children to remember their anticipation and joy. We will encourage them to interact naturally with you and your belly for genuine, loving shots.

-Pets: If you have furry family members, you might consider including them in the photoshoot for a complete family portrait. Please let me know in advance if bringing pets along.

Tip 5: Relax and Enjoy the Moment

One of the most important tips for a successful pregnancy photoshoot is to relax and enjoy the experience. Here’s how:

-Trust Your Photographer: I’m here to support you! If you ask my partner, he will tell you how awkward I am getting my photo taken so I understand what it feels like! In your questionnaire we will discuss how you’re feeling and what level of guidance you will need from me on the day to help you feel at ease.

-Be Yourself: Let your natural emotions and connection shine through in the photos. Don’t worry about posing perfectly - sometimes the best shots are the candid, unplanned moments. This is a great opportunity to connect with your body and your baby, so allow yourself the time to tune in and feel.

-Take Your Time: Allow plenty of time for the photoshoot to avoid feeling rushed. I aim to make it a spacious experience so we can take breaks as needed to ensure you feel comfortable and relaxed.

A pregnancy photoshoot is a wonderful way to celebrate and document this special time in your life. By considering these tips you can ensure a memorable and beautiful experience.

Remember, the goal is to capture the love, anticipation, and joy of your pregnancy journey. Embrace the moment, and together we will create magical images for you to treasure for years to come!
